오늘 소닉스의 밥 힐 감독 짤렸다. 1년 계약이 남아있던 GM 릭 선드도 팀 컨설턴트로 자리를 옮기는 형식으로 일선에서 물러났다. 선드도 좌천이라면 좌천인 듯.

SEATTLE - Seattle SuperSonics Head Coach Bob Hill will not return to the team next season and General Manager Rick Sund will serve the organization as a consultant during the remaining one year of his contract, it was announced today by Sonics Chairman Clay Bennett.

Bennett and Sonics Vice Chairman Lenny Wilkens will lead the search for a new general manager and head coach of the SuperSonics.

"Bob Hill and Rick Sund are fine individuals of excellent personal character and are basketball men through and through. They were both extremely helpful to us during this challenging year of transition. We are sincerely appreciative to them for their service and we wish them only the very best," Bennett said.

"While there is uncertainty as to the future physical location of our franchise, our commitment to creating a culture of competitive excellence for this organization is unwavering. We absolutely aspire to win championships."

이로써 작년에 짤린 사장 월리 워커를 비롯하여 GM 릭 선드, 감독 밥 힐까지 스타벅스 사장이 임명했던 인물들(적어도 직접적으로 농구단에 관여했던)은 모두 소닉스를 떠났다. 이제 새로운 오너인 클레이 베넷과 소닉스 부사장 레니 윌킨스의 새로운 소닉스 만들기가 시작된 것 같은데. 과연 어떤 방향성을 가지고서 팀을 만들어 갈까? 왠지 이번 오프시즌에 소닉스는 많이 바쁠 것 같다.


소닉스 관련 사이트 웹서핑을 하면서 대충 나온 차기 감독과 GM 후보들을 정리해보면 다음과 같다.

감독.

Marc Iavaroni: Assistant coach, Phoenix Suns.

- 어디 감독 공백만 생기면 가장 먼저 등장하는 인물. 그만큼 능력이 있다는 방증되겠다.

Rick Adelman: Former coach, Warriors, Kings, Blazers

- 지난 시즌까지 킹스의 감독을 지냈으며 프리스턴 모션 오펜스를 통해 킹스를 서부 강호로 키워낸 인물.

Rick Carlisle: Indiana Pacers coach

- 현재 인디애나 감독. 올해 플옵진출에 실패하고 팀을 떠날 것이란 루머가 있다고 한다. 수비 마인드가 투철한 감독이라는 평.

Brian Shaw: Assistant coach, Los Angeles Lakers

- 뜬금없이 브라이언 쇼라..-_-;; 필 잭슨 밑에서 많이 컸을까? 한팀을 짊어질 만큼?

P.J. Carlesimo: Assistant coach, San Antonio Spurs

- Marc Iavaroni와 더블어 감독 공백이 생기면 빠지지 않고 등장하는 이름. 하지만 스퍼스 생활에 만족하고 있다는 소문이 있는데.

Dwane Casey : Former coach Wolves

- 지난 시즌 미네소타 감독으로 도중하차함. 20승 20패를 기록중이었던 드웨인 케이시 감독을 짜른 것은 미스테리. 조지 칼 감독 밑에서 오랫동안 소닉스 코치를 지낸 관계로 소닉스에 대해 빠삭하게 알고 있다. 원래 네이트 맥밀란 후임으로 내정되어 있었는데 소닉스가 어리버리하다가 미네소타에게 빼앗겼었다. 네이트 맥밀란과 더블어 라샤드 루이스의 멘토 중에 한명.

Paul Silas : Former coach Hornets, Cavs

- 소닉스 우승당시 멤버로 강력한 카리스마를 가진 인물. 빅맨 조련에 일가견이 있다.

Jeff Van Gundy : Houston coach

- 올해가 계약 마지막해라는데...함 찔러나 볼까? 스테판 건디도 이름이 살짝.


GM

GM은 모르는 인물들이 많아서 대충 붙여넣기.

R.C. Buford: Prying him away from San Antonio won't be easy. Part of Spurs' front office since 1994 and general manager since 2002.

Lenny Wilkens: Took over the title of director of player personnel for the Sonics in 1977 and was essentially the team's general manager until 1986. Unclear how much responsibility he wants.

Kiki Vandeweghe: Former Denver GM is the hottest candidate on the market. He's expected to talk to Memphis about replacing Jerry West. Working as an ESPN analyst.

John Hammond: Detroit's vice president of basketball operations is perhaps the NBA's most respected front-office executive not running a team.

Rich Cho: Salary-cap specialist who began working for the Sonics as an intern in 1995. Former Boeing engineer has a law degree from Pepperdine but uncertain whether he's adept at judging basketball talent.

Sam Presti: If Sonics miss on Buford, Spurs' assistant GM would be a nice consolation prize. Has a background in scouting, and he created the team's scouting database.

David Griffin: Promoted to VP of basketball operations in Phoenix last year and has spent 14 years with Suns.

John Gabriel: Currently working as a scout for Portland. Former architect of talented Orlando teams.

Tony Ronzone: Director of basketball operations, Detroit Pistons

Jerry West: NBA great recently left his job as president of Memphis Grizzlies.

Wayne Cooper: Vice president of basketball operations, Sacramento Kings.
