SEATTLE – Sonics General Manager Rick Sund announced today that guard Ray Allen will miss the remainder of the season with bone spurs in his left ankle. The injury will require Allen to undergo surgery, although a specific date for the procedure has yet to be determined.

“It makes sense for Ray to go forward and have the surgery,” Sund said. “He’s been playing with pain for some time now, and all parties involved agree that this is what is best for Ray in the long run.”

In his 11th NBA season, Allen appeared in 55 games this year for the Sonics, averaging a career-high 26.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.1 assists in 40.3 minutes per contest. A seven-time NBA All-Star, Allen scored a career-high 54 points vs. Utah on Jan. 12, 2007.

The fifth overall pick in the 1996 NBA Draft by the Minnesota Timberwolves, Allen was acquired by the Sonics from the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 20, 2003. The University of Connecticut alum has appeared in 790 regular season NBA games and holds career averages of 21.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. Allen has made 1,920 three-pointers, second only to Reggie Miller’s NBA record of 2,560.

레이 앨런이 드디어 양쪽 발목을 모두 수술하기로 결정하면서 공식적으로 시즌 아웃이 되었다.

수술은 LA에서 Dr. Richard Ferckel 의 집도로 이루어질 계획. Dr. Richard Ferckel 은 2003년에도 레이 앨런의 오른쪽 발목수술을 담당했던 의사. 아직 수술날짜는 확정되지 않았지만 수술후에 재활기간이 6주에 8주정도 걸릴 것으로 예상되고 있다. 다음 트레이닝 캠프까지는 무리없이 회복할 수 있을 듯. 수술이 잘 끝나길.



지난 스퍼스전. 아무리 레이 앨런이 빠졌고, 상대가 후반기의 강자 스퍼스라고는 하지만 41점 패배가 뭐냐. 얼마전에 식서스 50점차로 발릴때.."에휴..이건 뭐 막장이네" 이랬었는데, 남말할 처지가 아니라니까. 이대로가면 다음 드래프트 탑 5픽은 확실하고 잘하면 탑 2픽까지 노려볼 수도 있겠다.


레이 앨런은 드래프트에서 탑 2픽이 나올경우 트레이드해서 베테랑 플레이어를 영입하길 원하고 있다. 팀내에는 이미 차고넘칠만큼 유망주들이 많으니 이 선수들의 발전에 도움이 되고 팀에 전력에 즉시 도움이 되는 선수를 영입하자는 의견. 하지만 소닉스가 만약 1,2번 픽을 잡는다면, 레이랑 라샤드 다 처리하고 새로 판을 짜려고할 수도 있다. 이건 며느리도 모르는 일. 잘하면 올시즌이 레이의 마지막 시즌이 될 가능성도 있어 보인다.



로버트 스위프트가 간단한 러닝과 슈팅, 볼핸들링 연습을 시작했다. 스위프트와 Q&A(http://www.nba.com/sonics/news/swift070326.html)가 소닉스 홈피에 올라왔는데 착실하게 재활프로그램을 따라가고 있는 모양이다. 복귀날짜는 확실하지 않지만 약 4개월정도가 더 걸릴예정. 하지만 무리하지 않을 계획이라고 한다. 다음 시즌에는 로버트 스위프트 - 닉 콜리슨의 미국 토종 백인 빅맨 스타터 콤보를 볼 수 있기를 기대한다. 아니면 로버트 스위프트 - 요한 페트로의 흑백 트윈타워도 땡큐. 윌콕스에 대한 기대는 여전히 높지 않다.
